Republican Senate wants homeless vets’ families to stay homeless
Those patriotic Republicans are at it again. This morning, Patty Murray spoke on the floor, requesting unanimous consent to pass the Homelss Women Veterans and Homeless Veterans with Children Act. Mitch McConnell, on behalf of Tom Coburn, objected to the bill. Watch:
Murray’s office sent out this statement:
“I am deeply disappointed that Senate Republicans continued to put politics above people and blocked my bill that would provide support for homeless women veterans and their families,” said Senator Patty Murray. “This is a bipartisan, common-sense bill that would support veterans in my home state of Washington and across the country. I am going to continue fighting for it to pass. And I urge Senate Republicans to end their obstruction and allow homeless women veterans across the country to get the support they have earned.”
Senator Murray’s bill, S.1237, would expand assistance for homeless women veterans and homeless veterans with children and would increase funding and extend federal grant programs to address the unique challenges faced by these veterans.
I guess these means they’ve abandoned the whole idea of compassionate conservatism. Or they all get their news from Bill O’Reilly, and think that there’s no such thing as a homeless vet.
Why the BP Disaster Threatens to Expose Fox News’ Insanity to Its Right-Wing Audience
Via: MediaMatters
That’s the number you need to keep in mind as you listen to the right-wing caterwauling about how poor, helpless BP has been tormented and demonized by the bullying, Constitution-hating Obama White House.
Eight-two percent.
According to the latest CNN poll, a huge, huge, huge majority of Americans supports the $20 billion escrow fund that BP agreed to create in order to help pay for the Gulf of Mexico cleanup.

And get this: According to the same CNN poll, a microscopic 5 percent of Americans think Obama has been "too tough" on BP. Just 5 percent.
But apparently those 5-percenters all host radio and TV shows, or blog online, because that radical claim that Obama’s to blame for creating the hated escrow fund (not to mention for causing the oil spill in the first place), has been exploding within the GOP Noise Machine as pundits, bloggers, and talk show hosts rush to defend BP and denounce one of the most popular things Obama has ever done.
Rep. Michele Bachmann Tied To Christian Band That Calls For Gays To Be Executed
A Minnesota-based Christian rock band whose lead singer calls for the execution of homosexuals will appear at this year’s state GOP convention and has ties to the reelection campaign of Rep. Michele “Crazy Eyes” Bachmann. Via Change.org:
The Minnesota Independent notes that a Christian rock band in Minnesota, which has called for LGBT people to be killed and targeted for violence, has built an incestuous relationship with the state’s GOP, including intimate ties with the campaigns of Rep. Michele Bachmann, and gubernatiorial candidate Tom Emmer. Moreover, the band — known as You Can Run But You Cannot Hide — also received a GOP-sponsored booth at this year’s state Republican Convention. Just what does You Can Run But You Cannot Hide have to say about the subject of homosexuality? Well, according to their front man, Bradlee Dean, they believe that gay people should be murdered, much like they are in conservative Muslim countries. “Muslims are calling for the executions of homosexuals in America,” Dean said. “This just shows you they themselves are upholding the laws that are even in the Bible of the Judeo-Christian God, but they seem to be more moral than even the American Christians do, because these people are livid about enforcing their laws. They know homosexuality is an abomination.”

South Carolina Senator – Keepin’ It Real
On a talk show Wednesday night in South Carolina, State Senator Jake Knotts told listeners “we already have one raghead in the White House, we don’t need a raghead in the governor’s mansion.” Obama is … well, Obama and “raghead” number two is gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley, who is the child of Sikh immigrants from the Punjab. Knotts later released a statement saying that his comment had clearly been meant in “jest,” which I guess counts as exculpatory in those parts.
What’s with Republicans and conservatives thinking “I’M JUST JOKING” is the ultimate in excuses? This type of rhetoric seems to have a null value to folks on the right. It’s the norm, and nobody seems to even notice. Now, say something about Christianity, one of the right’s TV talkers, or any of the sacred cows of the neo-fascists, and you’ll hear hysterical screeching about THEY’RE TAKING OUR RIGHTS AWAY and WHY ARE LIBERALS SO INTOLERANT OF OUR REACTIONARY, ANTI-AMERICAN, STATIST RHETORIC???
Side note: The last we’d heard from Knotts was last September when he accused unnamed forces behind disgraced Governor Mark Sanford of spreading rumors that Knotts’ favored candidate for governor, current Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, is gay.
Bauer, you may remember from Wednesday’s big developments. On Wednesday morning he fired lobbyist Larry Marchant from his campaign, shortly before Marchant came forward to say that he’d had a one-night-stand with Haley back in 2008 at a school choice convention in St. Lake City.

Who Does Sarah Blame For The Gulf Spill?
If you guessed BP you are WAY off. In her latest note on Facebook, unemployed mother of 5 Sarah Palin is blaming “extreme ‘environmentalists’” for causing the gulf oil disaster that has been unfolding for over a month. Her logic is that because environmentalists push for tougher drilling regulations onshore in places like the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (also known as ANWR) it forces oil companies to explore deeper offshore drilling which has more risks.
