Rachel Maddow featured a hilarious bit from this weekend’s “Values Voters Summit” in Missouri, featuring a fellow named Mike Schwartz, who is Republican Sen. Tom Coburn’s chief of staff. Ivan G. Marte, chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Hispanic Assembly, says he has quit the GOP out of embarrassment at South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson’s outburst during President Obama’s address to Congress last week.

Wilson shouted ‘You Lie,’ when Obama remarked that illegal immigrants would not receive benefits under his health care plan.

“I do not want to continue being a member of a party in which the members of the party express themselves in that way,” said Marte, 59, of Cranston. In a phone interview, he called Wilson’s behavior “shameful” and “uncivilized.”

It was somewhat gratifying to see Chris Matthews’ right-leaning panel on his Sunday show — which was, as expected, eager to deny the role of racism in the ugly animus that’s been directed at Barack Obama — at least admit the truth:

David Brooks: What Rush and Glenn Beck are doing is race-baiting. 100 percent. That’s race-baiting.

…

Kathleen Parker: What Rush Limbaugh and Beck did in those two clips is to empower racists.

But it was even more interesting to watch Brooks in particular somehow manage to stumble upon the core of the problem:

The right still has their panties in a wad about ACORN because they think it’s still going to take over the world. Apparently now some “actor” went to different ACORN offices posing as a pimp with some slutted up skank and got housing advice for their prostitution ring. The acting in the videos is pretty sad and I seriously doubt this guy will get any ligitimate work out of the whole thing but a few ACORN reps went along with it and the crazy side got all hard and creamed themselves over how “damaging” this is.

The right has been foaming at the mouth about it so much little George (the mutant midget with Blagojevich hair) Stephanopoulos decided to ask about it in an interview this weekend. The economy is still shaky. We’re mired in two wars and it’s going to be difficult to get out of either of them without making the situation even worse. The crybaby party is fighting every step of the way to prevent poor people from being able to get health care… And you want to talk to the president about this? Seriously? The most important thing you can think of to discuss with the President of the United States is a viral video on You Tube?
